HST Information Session for Artists
This past summer season saw the implementation of Ontario's new sales tax, the Harmonized Sales Tax. In partnership with the Canadian Alliance of Dance Artists Ontario and the Canadian Music Centre, CARFAC Ontariohas planned an evening information session for artists, to inform arts practitioners of the ways in which HST will affect your practice. The session will feature a talk by chartered accountant Marcia McCann, a knowledgeable advisor with a background and vested interest in the arts, followed by a question and answer period.

EI Special Benefits for Self-Employed Artists Information Session
On December 16, 2009 the federal government passed Bill C-56, the Fairness for the Self-Employed Act. The legislation extends Employment Insurance (EI) special benefits, which are maternity, parental, sickness and compassionate care benefits, to the self-employed on a voluntary basis.
