It is common practice in not-for-profit organizations to hold fundraising events where artwork is sold to raise funds for the organization. Refer to "Guidelines for Professional Standards in the Organization of Fundraising Events" when planning your next fundraising event. Artists especially should refer to this Advisory Note when planning on participating in a fundraisers, keeping in mind that art making is a profession like any other, yet most Canadian artists find it difficult to make a living wage from their artwork. At the same time, community groups continually approach artists to donate portions of their inventory for fundraising projects. While community and not-for-profit organizations are generally under funded and have limited resources, artists are also in this situation and there is a way for both the organization and the artist to benefit from fundraising events. CARFAC Ontario works to create a socio-economic environment where artists are treated fairly and equitably.
