On the evening of October 4th, 2008 the City of Toronto will be buzzing with energy as more than 500,000 people take in the multitude of visual and media arts experiences during the Nuit Blanche festival.
This year, CARFAC Ontario is partnering with Balzac's Coffee. Representatives will be distributing information about CARFAC, as well as election toolkits that supporters of arts and culture can take away and use before the federal election on October 14th. Balzac's has locations in Toronto at both the Distillery District and Toy Factory (www.balzacscoffee.com). In light of the important role that culture is playing in the election, CARFAC will also be distributing special "Vote for Culture" buttons to the first 1000 people who swing by to get their caffeine kick.
The CARFAC festivities don't end there. On the rooftop garden at the 401 Richmond building, a screening of Jack Chamber's film "Hart of London" will take place to celebrate CARFAC's 40th anniversary. Chambers, one of the founders of CARFAC, believed strongly in artists being treated fairly and sharing equitably in profits derived from their art practice.
CARFAC Ontario volunteers will be distributing information from 7 pm to midnight at both Balzac's locations and the rooftop garden. The film screening will begin at 9pm at the 401 Richmond building.
For those individuals that can't make it to Toronto but want to support the "Vote for Culture" campaign, the image can easily be downloaded from the following location (www.carfacontario.ca/images/button.png) and placed on to Facebook profiles and personal web pages.
