Submissions must be received no less than two weeks prior to publishing. Late submissions, or those which we are unable to immediately accommodate will be included in the following newsletter.

Due to the volume of submissions received we may be unable to accommodate all submissions. CARFAC Ontario may decline to publish any submission at its discretion. Submissions may be modified for length and clarity. Submissions will be published in DISPATCH once.

We welcome submissions for funding opportunities that are relevant to visual artists in Ontario. These may be grants, awards, prizes, or bursaries made available by arts councils, government agencies, arts organizations, or foundations.

CARFAC Ontario may exclude, at its discretion, funding opportunities for which the labour required to complete an application is disproportionate to the level of funding available.

Funding opportunities (i.e. prizes) that require artists to pay a submission fee will not be considered.

Presenters of public exhibitions seeking submissions from artists must confirm that the submitted exhibition opportunity is consistent with the Ontario Status of the Artist Action. This includes the payment of artist fees in accordance with the CARFAC-RAAV Minimum Recommended Fee Schedule, the use of contracts, proper handling of intellectual property, respecting Indigenous cultural protocols, and other basic industry standard practices. Submissions that require artists to pay fees to submit work for consideration, and/or to present work will not be included.

Commercial exhibitions must present a viable opportunity for the artist to sell work. Priority will be given to commercial exhibitions where the presenter actively contributes to market development and sales of artwork. Of the revenue generated by the sale of an artist’s work, no less than 60% must be paid to the artist.

Residency opportunities that pay fees to participating artists, or offer an honorarium or financial assistance will be prioritized. Residencies that do not pay fees to participating artists may be included provided that no fees are charged to the artist to apply.

Art fairs may be included at staff discretion, with consideration to application/booth fees, entrance fees charged to the public, scope and location of the event, and potential for artists to generate revenue.

We welcome submissions for employment or work opportunities relevant to visual artists in Ontario. Opportunities must be paid, or offer adequate honorarium. Submissions must include details on compensation. Unpaid internships and volunteer positions will not be included.

The Artist Classifieds is for members who are selling or seeking equipment, tools, materials, resources, and opportunities for knowledge sharing/skills exchange (e.g.technical skills, career guidance).

All submissions must be relevant to an artistic practice and the profession of visual arts.

Studio rentals must include information on cost, lease period, location, square footage, and type of rental.

Equipment, tools, materials may be offered for sale, exchange, or for free.
