Fees, member rates and subsidy

CARFAC Ontario members get legal help at member rates, set by Vandana Taxali of Entcounsel Law Firm and built around the realities of an artist's practice. During this pilot, CARFAC Ontario also offers a monthly subsidy fund that can lower your cost further.

Because every legal matter is different, there's no fixed price list. You'll get a quote showing your member rate and how much will be subsidized, and you decide whether to move forward.

How your cost comes together

Your quote uses the same professional standards applied across the industry, at your member rate. When subsidy funds are available, CARFAC Ontario covers part, or even all, of that cost.

The subsidy fund

During this pilot, CARFAC Ontario is proud to offer members access to a monthly fund that further supports the cost of legal services.

  • No applicationIf funds are available when your matter is approved, the subsidy is simply applied to your quote.
  • Funds are first come, first served.If they've run out, check back the following month.
  • TransparencyYou'll see how much is subsidized on your quote.

The subsidy is not retroactive and does not apply to preliminary or complimentary consultations, or any work done before your engagement begins.

Getting your quote
  1. Submit an intake form

    Describe your situation through Entcounsel's secure intake portal. Have your CARFAC Ontario member profile name or number ready

  2. Vandana reviews your matter

    She confirms whether the service is the right fit, or points you to referrals and resources if it's out of scope.

  3. You receive a quote

    It shows your member rate for the work involved and how much CARFAC Ontario's subsidy will cover, if funds are available.

  4. You decide

    Ask questions, then choose whether to move forward.

What's covered

Billing options

Services may be billed on a fixed or hourly basis depending on the matter, with fixed rates offered wherever possible. Group consultations with shared fees and payment instalment plans may also be available in certain circumstances.

Member Legal Services do not include fees for court-related matters, but these may be discussed directly with Entcounsel.

Associate and Institutional members

Individual Associate and Institutional members have access to member rates for eligible contract review work, and are responsible for at least 50% of their quoted legal fees. Where subsidy funds are available, CARFAC Ontario may contribute toward the remaining balance.

Making the most of your subsidy

The subsidy is meant to fund legal advice and representation, not administrative work you can reasonably do yourself. How much legal work it covers depends partly on you providing information and instructions in a timely, organized way. We ask that you:

  • Provide complete, accurate information and relevant documents promptly
  • Keep materials reasonably organized
  • Prepare a clear chronology or summary of events when asked
  • Flag deadlines and urgent circumstances at the outset
  • Respond promptly and attend scheduled meetings or calls
  • Review drafts and give instructions within reasonable timelines
  • Let the lawyer know promptly about changes or new developments
If materials or participation fall short

If materials are incomplete, substantially disorganized or unusually voluminous, Entcounsel Law may ask you to organize or complete them before work continues. Significant extra review, administrative or organizational time may be charged against the subsidy or billed separately under your engagement letter.

If a member doesn't respond to reasonable requests, repeatedly misses agreed deadlines or otherwise doesn't participate enough for the matter to proceed, Entcounsel Law may pause or close the file in line with its professional obligations. Any unused subsidy may then no longer be available for that matter.

Approved subsidies may also be released back to the program if a member doesn't complete the engagement process or provide requested initial information within a reasonable period after follow-up.
